If you should ever require a repair (whether during or after the warranty period), we aim to make it as easy as possible for you - we won't make you jump through lots of hoops. For non-warranty repairs we do our best to keep your costs as low as possible. For instance, our engineer's labour is charged in blocks of only 15 minutes, not full hours, so you will only be charged for the actual time it takes to repair your equipment. You might be surprised how little it costs to keep your expensive juicer or distiller working for you for many years, or even decades. Certainly we might make more money out of you if we encouraged you to throw the old one away and just buy a new one, but we'd rather help if possible, and not contribute to our throw away society.

Founded in 1981 Wholistic Research Company has its roots in the study of natural science, iridology, herbalism, polarity therapy, yoga, natural food for optimum health and other allied subjects. The products have sprung from the personal lives of all those at Wholistic. We all use in our own lives items from all the product categories offered here. They all have our personal recommendation. They all help towards the problems of living successfully and maintaining good health within our modern, polluted world.

The word wholistic, also spelt 'holistic', conveys the idea that the whole is greater than just the sum of its parts. In health, it means considering the 'whole' person - their lifestyle, habits, constitution, physical and emotional stengths and weaknesses and their environment. The wholistic-minded therapist, practitioner or person therefore considers the whole person, when giving treatment, advice and help. The derivations of 'wholism' and 'holism' are of interest. It seems likely that the word 'holism' was first coined early in this century, having as its root the Greek 'holos' meaning 'whole'. The word 'whole' comes from the old English 'hal', first acquiring a 'wh' in the fifteenth century, and being the same root for 'hale' and 'health'. 'Wholism' was a later variant of 'holism', which gave it a parallel derivation and, in fact, a mildly different flavour of meaning. 'Wholism', is actually 'holism' as applied to health.

We have only ourselves. Whatever we may consider that self to be, it definitely has body and mind wrapped up in it somewhere or somehow. And if that body is not healthy, it is more difficult to be happy and to feel fulfilled. If we spend so much on television sets,  cars, washing machines, refrigerators and the like, in order to make the running of our lives smoother and more pleasant, then we definitely owe it to ourselves to look after ourselves as well as possible, to give ourselves a better life. In addition, we also have to deal, in some way or another, with the many aspects of environmental pollution and psychological stress engendered by our modern way of life. However, as a friend once commented 'Most people would rather die, than spend £5 a week on their health'. With the current upsurge of interest in Natural Health and the increasing individual desire to take responsibility for one's health and well-being, we hope he is not correct!

FIVE HOUSE FARM

Wholistic Research Company was originally based near Cambridge in the UK. It is now situated in the rolling countryside of North East Hertfordshire just South of Cambridgeshire. Our premises were converted for us from redundant dairy buildings at Five House Farm. The dairy cattle are long gone now, but there are herds of fallow deer in the local area which we often see when walking the green lanes behind our office. We feel very fortunate to be situated in such a lovely setting so close to nature.

Our planet needs care and love if it is to survive as a reasonable place in which to live. And we too need to love and care for ourselves and one another if we are to be genuinely happy. As well as treating our customers with kindness and respect, we aim to be a green and ethical company. In keeping with our mission to help clean up the planet our stationery is made of 100% recycled paper, most of our own records are printed on the back of scrap paper, clean waste paper is shredded and used for internal packaging, and we use recycled boxes and packing materials where possible, including second-hand materials that come into our warehouse. As well as healthy lifestyle products we offer some green and humane items. We do our best to offer best quality and value to our customers. 

CANCER - Far too many people have been diagnosed with this dreaded condition. A recent study of ancient Egyptian and Neanderthal remains showed that cancer was almost non-existent in ancient times. In 1900 (well after the Industrial Revolution) about 1 in 80 people used to develop cancer, but by the year 2000 that number had increased to around 1 in 4! As cancer seems to be one of the main indicators of how our modern way of living is damaging our health, Wholistic is involved with a number of cancer charities and organisations who are trying to help reverse this trend, and it makes donations to them every month. If you or someone you know has cancer, and would like to find or study some complementary and alternative treatment options other than relying solely on standard medical practices, please have a look at our links page (click on the word "links" on the green bar above). Origins of the Wholistic Research Company

John Davidson M.A. (Cantab), born in 1944 in Carlisle, England, is a Cambridge Natural Science graduate, where he obtained his B.A. and M.A. Though working at the University in a research and educational environment for many years, in 1977 he also turned his attention to the design of various specialist products in the computer world. An interest in Nature and a whole and natural way of life has been a part of his being since childhood however, and it was not long before he took the same entrepreneurial spirit into designing and researching various products of value for living naturally and healthily in a modern world. In 1981, he founded the Wholistic Research Company, initially to support the teaching of iridology at the British School of Iridology, but rapidly branching out into a wider range of products. He has also studied yoga, and read widely in iridology, herbalism, polarity therapy, and other allied subjects.

In 1984, he finally relinquished his University commitments in order to devote more time to developing the Wholistic Research Company and to writing. Since 1987, he has completed more than a dozen books, including a series of six, demonstrating the compatibility of science and mysticism.

In 2000 John retired and moved to Worcestershire with his wife Lucie. He has continued writing and in recent years he has developed a website www.self-helpcancer.org to provide clear and unbiased information on complementary and alternative cancer treatments that are supported by positive and independent research data. It is a privately funded website with no commercial ties, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for intelligent information on dietary, herbal, mineral, chemical, therapeutic and proprietary product options for treating cancer, and also for links to more cancer help sites.

Farida Sharan N.D. Natural Physician, Naturopath, Master Herbalist and Iridologist was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1942. Farida moved to California, USA in 1963 where she managed health and beauty spas and trained massage and beauty therapists. After healing her own breast cancer with natural medicine in the early seventies at an Essene healing centre in southern California, she made natural medicine her life work.

From l977 to l988 she lived in Cambridge, England, where as a leader in complementary and alternative natural medicine she founded the British School of Iridology, the British Register of Iridologists (the premier register honoured by the Institute of Complementary & Alternative Medicine in London) and the School of Natural Medicine. During this time she hosted symposiums in Cambridge to bring together renowned teachers such as Dr. Bernard Jensen, Dr. Raymond Christopher, Dorothy Hall, Willy Hauser, Harri Wolf and Denny Johnson to present research and create a synthesis of Iridology teachings.

Together with John Morley (the late editor of Wholistic's free health information pages), she founded Iridology Research and wrote the Iridology Manifesto. She also traveled to Germany to meet with the renowned iridologist, Joseph Deck, and Willy Hauser, and to visit nature cure clinics. She has written a number of books on Iridology and Herbs.

Farida was appointed a Director of the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine to represent Iridology, awarded a doctorate (MD) from Medicina Alternativa in Copenhagen, Denmark and appointed a Fellow of the Guild of Naturopathic Iridologists. For twelve years she worked with hundreds of patients and students, discovering revelations in physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of Iridology and Natural Medicine that she shares in her books, teachings and practice.

Currently residing in Boulder, Colorado Farida has been in private practice for over twenty-five years, several of which were in a gynaecological medical clinic in London, England where client progress was confirmed by medical tests taken before and after treatment. Her associate, Dr. Shirley Bond, commented, "I never knew such tissue changes were possible". She also worked with the Gerson Cancer Clinic and the Bristol Cancer Clinic, receiving regular referrals.
