Health Issues In The News

There are many controversial Issues in Health and Health Care. This has always been the case. Even in Hippocrates' time, at the beginning of modern medicine, there was controversy. Philosophical debates about Health and Health Care have raged for centuries. The way in which modern medicine as we know it came to be the dominant system in the western world is one of the most interesting controversial issues, as modern medicine has a different view of the purpose of health care, and different goals, than every other system of health that has ever existed or still exists now.

The Issues that concern the Health Team at Wholistic the most are (1) the very practical ones about the daily choices and the life choices that we and our patients make, and (2) those choices that have to do with the way we think, or don't think, about our future and the big future, and about what underpins a healthy life and a healthy future. Our choices can, often without our knowing it, be based on wrong information, family and peer pressure, status quo and advertising rather than understanding the likely consequences of both our daily and our lifetime choices.

Some of the articles in this section are about approaches to healthcare that are already standard practice for some practitioners and their clients/patients, and which are becoming more and more mainstream.

Some articles are about the way health care and its delivery is likely to be in the not too distant future.

Generally speaking, most of the articles in this Section will help in understanding the different ways that your doctor thinks and makes decisions about how to treat you, compared with the way your complementary practitioner thinks and makes decisions.

The Case Studies in the "Case Studies" section will illustrate these differences further as well as tell you about alternatives to drugs.

The essence of a wholistic diagnosis and how it is so much more than just a description of the symptoms is illustrated in both Dr Kohler's article Where is Natural Medicine Headed and in Dr Kaplan's article Health Matters : A Modern Approach in the links below.

Some articles in this section pose some challenging questions to those doctors and practitioners who do not seek the underlying causal roots and/or merely practice techniques that are "natural" or are directed primarily at removing symptoms.
