7X magnifier with built in torch using a smaller, longer lasting LED* instead of a lens-bulb.
To read the signs in the iris, the eye must be both illuminated and magnified.
Torches should be well constructed and use a lens-bulb or LED to provide a small and focused, rather than diffused, light patch. This combination torch and LED is built to this specification, while household, Maglite and ordinary map-reading torches are not. However, this Iridology torch is also perfectly useful for map reading and other magnification purposes.
*LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are nothing like light bulbs. An LED unit is a light emitting chip encased in crystal clear solid resin. It is very small and compact and the way each tiny unit is built makes them nearly indestructible. The light has a very even glow (wavelength and frequency). There's little contrast and little glare - no halo effect - which makes the LED ideal for lighting the iris. The reflection of the LED obscures less detail in the iris than a lens-bulb.
LEDs can last from 50,000 to 100,000 hours, up to 100 times longer than an ordinary bulb. That's around 6 to 11 years if left on continuously. An LED light running from a near dying battery won't fade - it will just drain less power. It will still give the same soft ambient light.
