Total Dissolved Solids Meter

 A simple way to test how pure your drinking water is.

Research has shown that as the TDS increase in a water supply, so do the number of chronic diseases in the population using that water supply. So its vitally important to drink the purest possible water. But how do you test your drinking water for purity without spending a small fortune on having it professionally tested?

This meter will show you how many particles of impurities (dissolved solids) are floating around in your drinking water, shown as ppm - particles per million.

Simple to use: switch it on, stir the end of the meter around the water sample and wait a few moments for the reading to appear. Readings range from 0 to 999 ppm. A reading of 0 means the water is absolutely pure and safe. This level of purity is likely to be found only in distilled water or unpolluted rain water.

While the TDS meter does not show which impurities are in the water (a very expensive analysis), it will show the quantity of impurites. These impurities might include harmful inorganic minerals like limesalts, lead, viruses, bateria like cryptosporidium, industrial solvents, chemicals and pesticides like nitrates, chlorides, fluoride, and even toilet paper! These impurities could be the underlying cause of aging diseases.

Examples of our own readings taken from water we've tested with the TDS meter:

• TAP WATER: 353 ppm (the hard alkaline tap water taken from our office in Hertfordshire).
• FILTERED TAP WATER: 170 ppm upon first use of the replaceable filter cartridge, going up to 278 ppm after the filter had been used for 4 weeks.
• BOTTLED WATERS: ranging between about 150 to 230 ppm on those we tested.
• DISTILLED TAP WATER: 0 ppm
• Distilled Water stored in a food grade plastic container for 8 weeks: 0 ppm

The figures above are useful in demonstrating that

1. Water filters become less effective with each use, gradually filling up with impurities that over the weeks increasingly leach back into the filtered water.
2. There appears to be no truth to the oft quoted theory that distilled water is "hungry" water that will draw impurities out of even food-grade plastic containers as soon as it is stored in them. (Note: All the plastic water-storage containers sold by Wholistic are made of food-grade plastic.)

Pocket sized, the TDS meter can be carried in a handbag or securely clipped to a pocket or belt with the handy clip, so you can take it with you wherever you drink water!
