Does your deodorant cause breast cancer?

Did you know that most deodorants are chemical cocktails? The chemicals seep through your skin and into the immediate underlying soft tissue. Microscopic nicks caused by shaving make it easier for the chemicals to get in (the labels on deodorants warn you not to apply them to broken skin). If you develop breast cancer, there's a 50% chance the tumour will be in the area closest to your underarm. There is only a 6% chance that cancer will appear in the area farthest from the underarm. So you are eight times more likely to develop breast cancer where you apply your deodorant.

The fact that most breast cancers develop nearest to the underarm is very suspicious. We do know that most deodorants contain high levels of aluminium and are laced with other chemicals that have yet to be thoroughly tested for safety. Combining some of these chemicals in deodorants may lead to toxic interactions.

Scientists haven’t said for sure that deodorant causes breast cancer, but high levels of aluminium are often found in breast tumours. Many doctors now recommend that those with breast cancer discontinue the use of conventional deodorants and anti-perspirants.

Anti-perspirants even more dangerous. The chemicals in anti-perspirants prevent sweating. But sweating is one of the ways the body cleanses itself of toxic substances. Every time you apply an anti-perspirant, it's like damming up a river, sweat backs up in and around your armpits. The result? The toxins in your sweat become trapped there. And worst of all, fatty breast tissue is especially efficient at storing those poisons.

Bacteria in the waste materials the body excretes is the cause of the odour. Rather than deal with the bacteria, the chemical industry chose to design a product that stops sweating and blocks the excretion of waste matter.
