When the skin of the scalp sheds faster than normal, we have dandruff. This can be caused by a problem with the sebum glands in the scalp, by eczema, psoriasis, candida or food intolerances. There is even a suggestion that dandruff can be caused by a microscopic fungus. So, you may need to try several of the suggestions below before you find the one which is right for you.
1) Make sure that you are consuming healthy fat in your diet (fish oils, olive oil, flax oil, etc.) rather than highly processed fats (hydrogenated, highly refined, cheaply produced).
2) Always use shampoos which are completely naturally sourced. Chemicals such as Sodium Laurel/Laureth Sulfate, amongst others, are harsh industrial cleansers that damage human skin.
3) Try massaging pure aloe vera gel into the scalp after washing hair.
4) Massage grapefruit seed extract diluted with water into the scalp after washing. This kills any yeast or fungus infections and helps to heal irritated areas.
5) Massage essential oil of tea tree diluted in olive oil into the scalp before bed. Put a towel on you pillow and sleep on it! Wash out in the morning. (you may also use essential oil of rosemary, but don't use before bed, or you could be up all night!)
6) Neem oil is another antiseptic and antimicrobial with strong healing qualities which has been used for centuries in India. Use as with tea tree oil.
7) Vitamins A, B complex and E are all essential for skin health. Also, zinc is important for skin healing.
8)supplement your diet with black currant oil or evening primrose oil. These provide an essential fatty acid called GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), which promotes the healthy growth of skin and hair. Doses of 500 milligrams twice a day. After six to eight weeks, when you start to see improvement, cut the dose in half.
