The Integumentary System by Harriet di Luzio, FGNI, MAR |
 |
By the age of 21 the delicate skin we were all born with has gone through many changes from the weather, pollution, and even from digestive considerations. By this age we have washed about 20,000 times, and bathed, showered and shampooed our hair about the same number of times.
We expect to do all this as our daily personal care regime. So we use soap, perfumed perhaps for the ladies and possibly strong woody aromas for the men. Follow this with smelly chemicals for under the arms, and away we go blocking up the respiratory system. That is what the skin is after all, part of the respiratory system, in fact the largest organ of the respiratory system! This you may say is what we breathe with, the respiratory system. So why do we clog it so!
People are becoming more aware of what they put on their skin especially as the pollution levels are high in cities, train stations, air-conditioned buildings etc,
Old sayings such as "if you can't eat it, don't put it on your face", was what mothers used to inform their daughters whilst trying to teach them about how to stay beautiful as they got older. Or as one elderly gentleman stated to his poor granddaughter "I know how to get rid of those spots on your face, just get some soda and wash your face in it each day, go as quick as a flash". Unfortunately so did the layers of skin as it peeled quite embarrassingly, for the young teenager.
Now we all have heard the saying "you are what you eat," and this is quite true, but what are we to do to help the hormonal young ladies and for that matter, the hormonal teenage male. Are these the same young people who feel that grabbing a hamburger or a packet of crisps with friends on the way home from school is such a great idea!
Are these the same young people who don't talk about the constipation that is causing them grief due to their unsavoury dietary intake? Constipation is not a topic of conversation at that age is it? So they generally suffer in silence, and then the acne starts to appear.
Spots, heaven forbid! Out comes the make up, the concealer, then the spots may spread and become unsightly. One of the main causes of acne is poor elimination.
Now how does this all show in the iris of the eye? Pretty easy to see the skin because it is on the outer edge of the iris very near to the sclera (the white of the eye.) The outer ring of the iris can appear darker and can be quite dense. The darker the tone the more sluggish, inactive and toxic is the skin. In fact what we are seeing in the Iris of the eye is poor elimination along with signs that the skin is underfunctioning!
When this sign is seen in the iris, the first consideration is the respiratory system. How is the skin breathing? What can we do to stimulate it and get the eliminative system functioning better? Skin brushing! Skin brushing is something that has been around for many years and has proved itself to be extremely beneficial in many cases. Always make sure you obtain a pure bristle brush, not plastic or nylon that will irritate the skin.
Brush from your feet to your heart and then from your arms to your heart. Do this for at least five minutes if you can. I'm sure you'll enjoy a good start to the day! The more you do it the more you will enjoy the daily scrub.
How about the digestive system? What on earth is being put in it? With all the fast food available what is happening to our digestive system, what nourishment are we really getting that is giving our gastro-intestinal tract any benefit? Or are we absorbing anything at all.
Some suggestions on how to start putting the body's house in order would be to review firstly the dietary intake along with chewing all foods thoroughly. Then purchase a pure bristle brush and begin a skin brushing regime. Ask your Practitioner for more information about how you can take care of yourself in these common-sense ways.
