Dr. Zoll: You are on the frontier of modern Bio-Energetic medicine. You have given your life to something far bigger than yourself. What has the journey been like? Perhaps your answer can illuminate the way for others who are following in your footsteps.
Dr. Schimmel: I always wanted to become involved in Bio-Energetic medicine, which is referred to as functional medicine in Europe. Before I started to work in this field, I had studied dentistry and medicine, because I felt, that I couldn't talk about functional medicine without knowing enough about orthodox medicine. This wasn't an easy way to take.
I finished my studies of orthodox medicine at the age of 41, and my knowledge in the field of orthodox medicine often collided with my everyday experience. Before I started to write books and to hold seminars I had to come to terms with a lot of contradictions between orthodox medicine and functional medicine. This is very time and energy consuming. But finally I felt that I had managed to achieve a synthesis of both.
Dr. Zoll: Being a successful medical doctor and dentist in Europe, why did you get involved in bio-energetic medicine?
Dr. Schimmel: Apart from my previously mentioned calling, my main reason for becoming involved in functional medicine was my critical way of thinking. I didn't believe everything I had been told at the university and I have been frustrated very much by many unanswered questions during my studies and my everyday practical work; i.e. I wanted to know something about the fundamental causes of the many complaints of my patients which weren't supported by clinical findings.
Dr. Zoll: I have told you on more than a few occasions that your life and work are an inspiration to me. Who are the people that inspired you?
Dr. Schimmel: I have been inspired by many people. Mainly Prof. A. Pischinger (Austria) who had done a lot of research in the field of connective tissues. Then Dr. Reinhard Voll, the inventor of electro-acupuncture and Dr. Samuel Hahnemann who established homeopathy and Dr. H. Motoyama from Japan who wrote about chakra-testing, and finally Dr. Johannes Goebel, a German physician, who gained a lot of experience in the field of neural therapy.
Dr. Zoll: I know that the way in medicine you have chosen has not been easy. Certainly, you have had to make a lot of sacrifices to be where you are today. Do you ever feel like running away or escaping to some remote tropical island?
Dr. Schimmel: My main goal at the moment is to finish my two volumes about functional medicine and if I have enough time and live long enough I would like to write a book about spiritual medicine. When these books have been finished I really would like to retire to a lonely tropical island for some time.
Dr. Zoll: It seems to me that we are sometimes able to achieve extraordinary results using the VEGAtest system and modern homeopathy. However, the percentage of people who are using our services is still quite small. What is to going to take to bring modern bio-Energetic medicine out of the closet?
Dr. Schimmel: I personally believe, that functional medicine will prove to be the medicine of the 21st Century. Orthodox medicine has no answers and no means of coping with the problems of chronic and degenerative diseases. I regret having to say this, but something dreadful will probably have to happen before functional medicine can free itself of its isolation. This means that chronic diseases will have to increase drastically, that the health insurance companies will probably become bankrupt due to the immense costs, and that the normal patient will finally understand that orthodox medicine has to be complemented by functional medicine. The public will demand changes in our public health system. Traditional medicine will be forced to do something, just because of the pressure of public opinion. I'm afraid, that these changes will be fundamental and drastic. But these are the forces that move the world. When such idealistic thoughts coincide with these very materialistic events, the result will be a break-through.
Dr. Zoll: We are living in a very toxic age. Some environmentalists say that if something dramatic is not done about the environment that the earth will not be liveable in the next seventy-five years. As we head into the 21st Century, what role will modern Bio-Energetic medicine take in identifying and treating people who are suffering from the by-products of living in a highly industrialized world?
Dr. Schimmel: I'm an optimistic person by nature except when I think of our future and our toxic age. The present toxic problem is like an iceberg. We only see the visible part on the surface and nobody tells us the truth about the real situation because this might cause unexpected reactions among the public. Even if all nations of the world stopped poisoning our environment now, the accumulation of toxic substances would only come to a standstill in 5 years at the earliest, because there are still so many substances on the assembly line. We would still have to live in a poisoned world for the next 80 to 90 years.
I am primarily concerned about another problem: even if we removed all toxic substances which are stored in our body with the help of special means, the toxic information of these substances remains in our bodies and would still be passed on to future generations. Even the WHO does not discuss this problem. During the last 3000 years, man was perfectly capable of adapting to toxic substances from bacteria, plants, animals, and minerals and to defend itself. Our defence system is very well able to fight these toxic substances, to neutralize them and to eliminate them. We are relatively helpless, however, against the modern industrial toxic substances which are produced in vast quantities very day. I myself, my family and my patients possess a certain protection against this toxic threat and the associated information thanks to special medicines which are not available to everybody. We could call it a general biological catastrophy, which possibly has to happen before the public can benefit from these means, so that everybody can call upon this protection. We have the experience, the means and also the good results.
Dr. Zoll: What does modern Bio-Energetic medicine have to offer people stricken with AIDS?
Dr. Schimmel: I can't say much about AIDS because I haven't seen or treated many patients with this terrible disease.
Dr. Zoll: In my book, I mention "psychic pollution" (deep seated mental and emotional trauma) as being a fundamental health problem do you have any suggestions for VEGAtesters who will apparently be seeing more patients who suffer from psychic pollution?
Dr. Schimmel: There will be more and more patients with deep-seated mental and emotional traumata. I believe, that most of them are suffering from acquired toxic information or substantial intoxications in the sub-clinical field. All these things can be tested and we can even identify the toxins and their information and they can be neutralized with homeopathic single drugs in deep and high potencies. After this, there will be still a number of patients who need psychological treatment, that can't be substituted.
Dr. Zoll: What are your dreams and visions for the future?
Dr. Schimmel: My dreams and visions for the future revolve around the day, when traditional medicine cooperates with functional medicine. I also hope that one day religion will become science and that man will get enough evidence to prove, that dishonesty, stealing or murdering or other bad things don't pay off. I hope that man will improve from within and become more spiritual.
